on April 1st (Saturday)  from 10:00AM to 7:00PM (from 10:00 to 19:00)

Target audience
6th to 8th graders, and anyone else who wants or feels the need to learn something new…

Summary/Goals of the event
Learn how to make/construct a simple three-wheel robot with very little pre-knowledge of electronics using an Arduino Nano at it’s core. Then, combining the popular Arduino software with MIT App Inventor and/or  the free app “BT Sena” at Google Play store  along with a Bluetooh module and a cell phone, learn how to control your robot remotely/wirelessly.

Activities I am Planning*
for the Duration of the Event

The  agenda in detail of  the ‘Arduino Day 2017’   is as follows:

time of beginning 10:00 (10:00 AM)
time of end  19:00 (7:00 PM)
– with a 45 min. lunch break at 13:25  (1:25 PM)
– and aditional two breaks are planned, 15 and 20 min. respectively as needed.

  The Schedule In Detail* :

10:00 – 10:45 introduction, Arduino IDE basics -review, Enter the ‘Nano’;  Robotics – intro to the three-wheelers

10:50 – 11:35 Basic construction of the robot (simple ‘continuos servo version’ and the ‘version with motors with reductors’ controlled using L298 H-bridge )

11:40 – 12:25 Basic construction of the robot (possible wireless control via  BT module and/or IR TV remote control )

15 min.  break

12:40 – 13:25 Review and preparation for the “soft-side” of the robot control

45 min.  lunch break

14:10 – 14:55 Short – review of  all components ready for programing the Arduino Nano

15:00 – 15:45 Simple commands for control of continuos servos, analisis/comparison with the use of motors with reductors and the need for the L298 H-Bridge

15:50 – 16:35 The problem with tweaking the servo to stop at the given command of “90 degrees”  the  servo.write (90) ; command and the set up of the BT HC-06 module with voltage divider.

16:40 – 17:25 Application of the Android cell phone as “Joystick”, using the free “BT Sena” app at the Google App store.  Demonstration. Presentation of different versions/solutions of the same principle – wireless control via IR TV remote.

20 min. break

17:45 – 18:30 Open discussion. “Curiosity shop”  Q/A open for all with doubts about making their own DIY 3-wheeled robot.

18:35 – 19:00 Closing arguments and suggestions for going  further – 4 wheeled robots

In case the organizer/organization, is not able to provide support for the above mentioned event due to lack of funds necessary for purchasing the necessary hardware to perform the above stated event, especially concerning the „workshop“  part, where it is necessary to have at hand a minimal amount of components and tools (i.e. components w/ tools needed for construction of the 3-wheeled robot)  for the participants to be able to experience the act of constructing and/or programming – the organizer/presenter (further in the text ‘the organiser’ is implied as to the organizer/presenter) shall not be held responsible for any misrepresentation of the ‘planned schedule in detail’ stated above.  All participants are therfore highly encouraged to bring as much of their own parts and tools as possible which they will be using during the sessions i.e. lessons. Also, everyone is more than welcome to take shots (videos, photos, etc.) but with an obligation to the organiser that he shall receive a copy of each taken photo and video free of charge and the right to distribute to third parties without any fees. Furthermore, the organiser shall not be held responsible for not being able to provide each and every participant with any electronic equipment (e.g. computer, lap-top or similar) for the purpose of programming any microcontroller (e.g. Arduino Nano or similar).  Any and all activity over the net  will be at the discretion of the participants themselves via personal cell phones (i.e. there  will be no guarantee of  any ISP functionality within the organization where the above mentioned event will take place)
